You're Invited!: L'Africana Night

Okay kens and dolls...this is THE event to attend to end your NYFW properly. On Friday, February 18th, the MacDella Cooper Foundation is hosting L'Africana Night, a special event that will honor Mr. Barry Segal with a Lifetime Achievement Award (for his philanthropic commitment to sub-saharan
Africa), Ms. Bisila Bokoko as L'Africana Woman of the Year (for her commitment to eradicating illiteracy in Africa) and
Ms. Anna Schilawski being recognized as L'Africana Volunteer of the Year (for her commitment to the children of Liberia).

The MacDella Cooper Foundation was founded by MacDella Cooper who was a refugee of the Liberian Civil War. She is definitely a success story as she went through unimaginable losses, to only be a child, and was able to escape. She is currently a NYC resident who is no stranger to the fashion industry, with model photos in Glamour magazine. Well she started this foundation to create awareness of the plight of Liberian children through her humanitarian initiatives, garnering a lot of successful relationships with various investors.

The evening will be hosted by (my personal fave actor) Isaiah Washington (yes "Dr. Burke"), feature live performances, and have an exclusively designed collective designers runway show featuring African inspired garments from: Korto Momolu, Jedda Khan, Sunhee Hwang, Issa Sorogo, Taylor Forrest, Lucia Eastman, Irina Shabayeva, Tedd Ion, Farai Simoyi and Selma Berisalic Starfinger. Following the show, each dress will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the MCF Academy.

Seems like a perfect way to end fashion week, using fashion to help give back! Without a doubt, yours truly will be in attendance.
