Thursday Love: Have YOU Gotten Too Comfortable in Your Relationship?

This is a question that everyone…male and female…should ask themselves at some point in their lives. Have I allowed myself to get too comfortable in my relationship? Have I decided I’m too set in my ways to make changes? Have things gotten so comfortable with my partner, that I don’t do the things I used to do? Or do I do things now that I would've NEVER even contemplated doing when we first got together?

Let’s look at a few of these things and you can assess yourself and you can make the determination if you’ve gotten too comfortable in your own relationship.

1) This is a touchy subject (particularly with ladies…but I have to say it anyway). Have you allowed yourself to put on too much weight from the beginning of your relationship until now? This is not intended to attack anyone in any way. The average American adult puts on 1-2 pounds per year…so we’d all do well to ask ourselves…if we’re still within 10 pounds of the weight we were when we first met our partner or mate. Suppose we find that we’ve gained 50 pounds over the last 5 years…that’s a gain of 10 pounds per year. Is that acceptable? Is it healthy? Does your partner/mate have a problem with it? Keep in mind that if you’re noticing these things about yourself, chances are your partner or mate is noticing them as well…and if that’s the case it could start adversely affecting your relationship. You could find that this change has caused them to view you differently from a sexual standpoint. It’s quite possible for people to lose their attraction to one another.

2) Are you a home body now? What do I mean by that? Did you go out all the time when you first got together? How often do you spend a night on the town now? (This usually is aimed more toward men than women) When was the last time you took your woman out to dinner and a movie just because? Or (for both men & women), does your partner feel you’ve lost your spontaneity? What's your typical Friday or Saturday night like? Is it always the same thing....like Chinese take-out and blockbuster? In the beginning of the relationship, did you surprise them with flowers, or little love notes or surprise them at their job to take them to lunch? Do you still do those things or have you gotten too comfortable in your relationship that you feel… “I’ve done what I needed to do to get them…I don’t need to worry about that anymore.” Now most people don’t actually say those words…but our actions or lack thereof could be screaming that very loudly. Keep in mind that getting someone isn’t the hard part….it’s keeping them that’s difficult and if you’ve allowed yourself to change from the spontaneous, fun, energetic person they fell in love with…it’s only a matter of time that someone who resembles the “old you” sweeps them off their feet and walks them out of your life.

The moral of the story here is….Keep doing what you did to get them in the first place. If you always treat your partner/mate as if you’re still in the courtship phase of your relationship…even if you’ve been married for 10+ years…then there’ll be less and less chance that your or your partner will stop doing the things you both did to get one another.

Don’t let yourself go. I know this is easier said than done…I’m battling with it myself. I’ve put on more weight over the last five years of marriage than I personally deem acceptable…but I’m not just sitting accepting it either. I’m back in the gym and working back to my “first date weight”. It’s going to take time…but hey…it took time to put the weight on too. Also…don’t expect of your partner…what you’re not willing to do yourself. If you see they’ve put on weight…and you aren’t thrilled about it…look at yourself first before you say anything to them.

Variety is the spice of life. Don’t allow your relationship to fall into too much of a rut or monotonous routine. This is extremely detrimental to relationships and if not caught early…can spell disaster. Don’t always go to the same restaurants…try new things. Don’t always vacation in the same spot….try different places…either in the country or out of the country. And don’t relegate sex to something that is a scheduled event! When you start having to schedule when you’re going to have sex….that’s a problem! If you find yourself no longer wearing the sexy lingerie to bed that you used to…and have replaced it with a big frumpy t-shirt…start working your way back to the lingerie…and I guarantee your man…who may normally say something like…“not right now…I’m watching the game”…will have no idea a game is even on. And for the guys...don't think that just mentioning the word sex should have your woman turned on....it doesn't work like that!!! Remember what you used to do...and get back to it! Remember...sex for women is more than just a physical act...it means more and has many emotional ties to it. So if she's not interested...figure out what you need to do to get her interested again.

The Glambergirl Alert: 50/50 Movie Premiere

Cancer is a heavy topic to discuss but in the new film 50/50 set to hit theaters this Friday, September 30, a comical relief is given to the real life story of the writer of the film and how he overcame cancer.

On Monday September 26, 2011 in New York City the stars of the upcoming film 50/50 gathered for the movie premiere at Ziegfeld Theaters. Among the celebs in attendance were stars of the film Anna Kendrick, Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Also Scrubs actor Kelly Butler and Saturday Night Live's actor Bill Hader were some of the famous names that hit the red carpet on Monday night.

50/50 is a film about a 27-year old male who is diagnosed with a rare case of spinal cancer and the challenges he faces as he tries to beat the odds. The moment I saw this trailer way back in the summer I knew this was film I wanted to see. I love all three leads of the film as actors and I am so excited to see this film. It may be a comedy/drama but I hear it's a real tear-jerker so be sure to bring your tissues with you in the theater. I know I will!

Birkin Dreams: ALDO Desrochers

ALDO Desrochers. $50.00. Zappos.com

Sweater Weather - Don't Sweat it! [How-to Guide via @Dressbarn]

Even though it might seem like summer is not going down without a fight, it's time to start addressing the Sweater situation. Keith Fulsher, Dressbarn Chief Merchandising Officer, is giving us dolls some tips to picking the right sweater for our body types, so we don't turn ourselves into pumpkins this fall.
(Pear-Shaped) YVOS Tape Yarn Cardigan
with Crochet Yoke. $49.99. Dressbarn.com

Pear-Shaped (bottom half of your body is larger than your upper half):
o Select a sweater that ends at your waist so as not to draw attention to your lower half.
o A-line sweaters flatter this shape and will not cling to your middle.
o All-over patterns will add to the illusion of proportion.
o Opt for round- or square-necklines. This will draw more attention to your upper body
and less attention to your lower half.

Long and Lean:
o Choose a wrap-sweater or belted sweater in order to define your waist line.
(Long and Lean) Popcorn Trimmed Knit
Cardigan. $59.99. Dressbarn.com
o Go bold—a slimmer figure can handle bright colors, think textures, etc.
o Create curves by choosing a sweater with plenty of detail; think pockets, embellishment,
patterns, etc.
o This shape can handle a longer sweater/sweater dress. Pair with stylish boots and tights
to complete the look.
(Petite) Pointelle Stitch Cowl neck.
$39.99. Dressbarn.com

Petite:
o Closer-fitting (but not skintight) styles are perfect for petites.
o Look for chunky knits to pump up the volume on your top half.
o Opt for sweaters that have standout embellishments such as pockets, ruffles or bows.
o Pair sweater dresses with heeled boots to bring your style to a whole new level.

Plus Size:
o Sweaters that are belted or cinched at the waist will best accentuate this shape.
(Plus Size) Cascade cardigan with Animal
print inset. $39.99. Dressbarn.com
o V-neck sweaters or long necklaces will draw attention up toward your face and neckline
which creates a visually slimming look; avoid turtlenecks.
o Keep it simple; opt for darker colors and patterns to accent your curves, but makes sure
it fits. Baggy will only make you look bigger.
o Be cautious of fabric; bulky will add unwanted bulge. Think lightweight and airy.

Shoe Love Quickie: Giuseppe Zanotti

Giuseppe Zanotti. Ruffle front ankle boot. $1,095. Net-a-Porter.
My oh my how the weather has changed. Just when I was really getting into Summer, Fall is here. And while I am still not ready at all for the season change [because my wardrobe needs help transitioning], it might be a little easier to glide into with some fierce booties. Booties are a Fall staple, and since I am still a girly girl at heart, I gasped at these Giuseppe Zanotti Ruffle front ankle boots. Aren't they breathtaking? Of course the price tag left me gasping for air, which only made me search for its more price-effective sister. Happy Fall Season!

Style Snaps: Solange Knowles

[Phaedra from RHOATL voice] Everybody knows that Beyonce is a major stylicon for me. But back here lately, I have definitely been taking more notice of Solange. She's upped her style and I am loving it. Here she is snapped at an after party for Rimmel London (which she is also a spokesperson for) across the pond. She looks gorge and inspired me to now add this golden color to my wardrobe, complete with a fab shade of pink lipstick and simple nude (my shade) pumps. The leaves turn color, so why shouldn't my Fall closet?

I Heart: @JewelMint

The Fashionisette wearing the Blushing Stones ring.
Alright, so I have a confession. While I love accessories, I usually don't like shopping for them. Sometimes I just shop out of my mom's jewelry box. We've all been there right ladies? Accessories make any outfit complete, so obviously I've got to shop for them. Where is my new treasure chest? JewelMint. I'm not sure if you heard of it or not, but JewelMint brings you the latest trends in accessories for only $29.99 a piece. It's the genius of H'wood fashion stylicon Kate Bosworth and renowned celeb stylist Cher Coulter. The fashion duo teamed up to create a member's only jewelry club (how lux!). Not to mention, the jewelry is designed by Kate herself. When I went to the site, I created my account. You take this fun quiz to determine your style, and then voila! Handpicked jewelry for your taste is served up. From there, you can pick, click, and buy. Then every month, you get an e-mail with customized selections for you to choose. My first pick: the Blushing Stones Ring. It's adorable, sweet, and chic. It combined my love combo of cream and light pink. Tres girly. Next up, the coveted piece in my sight is the New Wave Ring. It's free to sign up to the club, so why not? And just in case you need an extra push, I'll be sure to keep showing you my fave picks.
New Wave Ring.

Like what you see and want a jewelry box of your own?

Photoshoot Fresh Series: What is True Style?

[This guest post is from Reggie Marshall, renowned LA fashion stylist. Every Friday he will feature his Photoshoot Fresh Series, a weekly post for you stylish gents out there. Finally, something for the "kens".]

Christopher Kane
WHAT IS TRUE STYLE ?

People love to ask the question what does style and fashion mean to you? Well to be honest it means everything. For starters, style and fashion are two totally different worlds. Fashion is different collections that are shown on the runways from Paris to N.Y. By specific designers. Style, on the other hand, is how those looks are worn and mixed with other designers to create a different look. Everyone has a style, be it a designer, a cab driver, or street worker. Style, be it good or bad, is everywhere. Let's talk about men's style shall we.

Rick Owens
Menswear has evolved from heavy wool clothing, and top hats to t-shirts and jeans. But one fact remains, women as well as some men love a well dressed man. I feel that as a man dressing every morning can sometimes be a challenge with the key being to always make the outfit look effortless. Remember... just because you wear brand names does NOT mean you look good. Yes, style is an opinion, but good style is something everyone appreciates and you will know by the people around you who complement whatever style or outfit you wear that day. Less is more, a plain White V-neck, Levis, Chuck Taylor shoes, and, Ray Bans are a must have in a man's closet.
A classic go-to look.

Also, don't be afraid to make a modest statement with a pop of color. With N.Y. fashion week all wrapped up, mens looks are as colorful as ever with Christopher Kane doing amazing bold prints to Rick Owens doing what he does best with chic, slim darker looks. So in closing, style is up to you! Wear what makes you feel good because when you feel good, life is good.

Until next week, have a photoshoot fresh kind of a day!

Thursday Love: Approachability....Do You Have It?

Ladies….Do you feel that you’re never approached by the right guy or that you seem to attract nothing but losers? At the risk of sounding like a jerk or unsympathetic…it could be you. Not to say that there’s anything wrong with you…but maybe you’re not exactly making yourself approachable.

When you're out with your girlfriends....is it always about being with your girls and that famous female mantra..."we came together...we're leaving together"? There's nothing wrong with having a girls night out, or even being there for your girls if they need your support. But...try not to let that be the theme for EVERY night out.

Suppose you feel that you're attracting nothing but losers. You'd do well to ask yourself or your closest friends for that matter...what vibe am I giving off that these rejects continually feel the need to approach me and not a nice guy? Well, let's look at a few things that could be causing the problem.

1) How do you present yourself? Do you dress in a way that others may perceive or assume that you're (for lack of a better word) easy? I know it's not right to assume that a woman is a certain way because she dresses a certain way. But let's be honest, society may be wrong...but people make snap judgements about people every day because of various superficial things they may see. It's not right....but that is the society we live in. So, you may want to ask your friends to give you an honest critique of how you dress. Because in reality...that could be what's causing the wrong kinds of guys to approach you...thinking that you might be their hookup for the evening.

2) Do you make yourself approachable? Have you ever seen one of those little mirrors that company's will give their employees to help them remember to smile through the phone when talking to a customer? The mirror has a saying on it..."What you see is what they hear". The same is true when you're out....keep in mind that the expression on your face can speak volumes before you even open your mouth. If you have a scowl on your face...that tells a guy that you aren't interested in being approached...and that may not actually be the case. So if you do want to be approached, do like my mom used to tell me and "fix your face". Also, your body language could say a lot as well. If you're into a guy who approaches you while you're sitting down...try crossing your legs and turning toward him. That shows a certain level of interest by turning toward him and centering yourself on him.

3) Be aware of a guy trying to hit on you or if he's attracted to you. This may sound like an easy one or a no-brainer...but make sure you know and can recognize when a good guy is trying to hit on you. Men don't always get things right the first time they try...so if he's fumbling around a bit or seems uncertain of what to say...try taking the reins and steering the conversation. Also, pay attention to his body language as well. His body language can and will tell you a lot about his feelings toward you. If you notice that his upper torso is always leaning in toward you, or he's straightening his tie when approaching you, or is attempting to engage in extended eye contact...he's into you...so pay attention.

Hope these tips were helpful and remember..."You're Worth It".

Birkin Dreams: MICHAEL by Michael Kors

Eva Longoria with navy Birkin.
Kim Kardashian with black Birkin.

Victoria Beckham with pink Birkin.
So who doesn't dream about owning a Hermes Birkin Bag? It's the only handbag I dream about owning. Every celebrity has one. Here's the thing, I am on a mission to find and tell you about every handbag that is Birkin-esque in my series on the site: Birkin Dreams. I will feature one handbag (with pricing and where to buy) that gives me that Birkin feeling, but that I can afford on my budget currently, or maybe you can afford.

First up: MICHAEL by Michael Kors 'Hamilton Chain' Large Vertical Tote. $348.
$348. Nordstrom.com

On My Radar: Ashtyn Collection (@ashtynllc)

Candy Cane Doublestrap Tank. $90
Now and Later Ruffle skirt. $87.50
Now the details of how I came across the Ashtyn Collection are a little vague, but all I know is once I saw the sherbet look pictured left, I was hooked. It's not even a dress, it's a Candy Cane Doublestrap Tank with the Now and Later Ruffle Skirt. I totally needed this for Summer...but will gladly get and hold onto until S/S 12...or throw on a blazer and rock now. In any case, I am getting off topic. Latisha Daring, the Brooklyn based designer, started the collection in 2009. Her collection is now on my fashion radar.

Lemon Pop Peplum Dress. $199

Marshmallow Kimono Dress. $137.50

Fashion TV: The June Ambrose Project

June Ambrose has been my stylicon for a long time now [ever since I had the pleasure of interviewing her for Fashion Week Daily back in 2007]. Well, we broke news of her having her own show on VH1 back in 2010, and now it seems that it will be official! The June Ambrose Project is set to premiere early next year. The half-hour series will air on VH1 and will follow June and her Mode Squad as they style celebs and musicians who need to revamp their looks. I am kind of hoping that June will change the title since Rachel Zoe's show is called The Rachel Zoe Project. No way June should have a knock-off label. So we're thinking June will go for Juniverse...after all, it's her style we just want to live in. [By the way, I cannot believe I did not score one of her turbans. She's the reason why I am even considering the trend. So I hope I can find one soon.]

The Glambergirl Alert: @Tyrese "STAY" Video Exclusive

Actor, songwriter, R & B artist and sexy chocolate man Tyrese Gibson has been teasing his 1,948,832 and counting followers on Twitter with snippets of his anticipated new album and single "Stay". Well The Fashionisette has it here! The new Tyrese video "Stay" has not been released officially yet and has not been seen by many eyes so be one of the selected few to check out his new video!

I personally love seeing Taraji P. Henson and Tyrese as a dynamic duo. They look GREAT together and seem like they always have fun on set. The song I think has to grow on me but the concept is there. Check out the video for yourself and let me know what you think!

On My Radar: @JaggerEdge Techcessories

Ashley Tisdale sporting Montana case
Ok, so I might not be Team iPhone yet [still on Team Blackberry, yeah I know], but if and when I do decide to make the switch, the only way I would accessorize my phone is with JaggerEdge. They totally coined the phrase "techcessory" with their fierce iPhone cases and iPad covers. Even Ashley Tisdale  was spotted rocking one. JaggerEdge is a LA based company started by two designing dolls, Gina + Alex. I am obsessed with their funky edgy cases and covers. While I might be not able to sport their iPhone cases, I can definitely carry their iPad covers [fringes and furs are necessities]. If you are iTeam, then you should definitely jooouge it up with JaggerEdge.

Red Carpet: 63rd Primetime Emmys

Jane Lynch in David Meister
Last night was the 63rd Primetime Emmys at the Nokia Theatre in LA. Jane Lynch hosted the award show. I did my best in watching, although I must admit it did not hold my attention...except when Lonely Island (SNL) performed with Michael Bolton, Maya Rudolph, John Stamos, and AKON. "Freak Bill Macy" is the new "Winning." Oh, and I did LOVE when Jane Lynch did this whole Jersey skit. That was funny. But I am not here to recap the Emmys for you...I just want to talk red carpet fashion. Of course, I can't wait for Fashion Police to have their say tonight on E!

Here are the red carpet winners in my book.
