NFW: Nolcha Fashion Week Fall 2012

Yours truly kicked off NYFW with Nolcha Fashion Week. It's the perfect start to fashion week by seeing all of the emerging designers...and Nolcha houses some of the best.

I attended the 3:30pm group of shows, featuring designers  Baruni, Rebeca Tiago, Antonia Paris, Riza Manalo, and Castro-Rojas. I always enjoy the shows because it's a smaller venue and you get to see a lot of designers all at once. This time, I was able to sit in the coveted front row, so seeing the shows was a whole different experience since I could actually see the designs (Thanks to A.C.!!).

Antonia Paris
First up, Antonia Paris. I really loved her use of colors on the runway. She designed a very wearable collection that could transition from day to night easily...and she offered a couple of separates so you can mix-match with pieces in your wardrobe already. She also had some kickin' dresses that are ideal for rooftop cocktails!

Next was the designing female duo Castro-Rojas. Loved that they also introduced menswear too. I enjoy a co-ed runway. Charlyn Castro-Rojas & Mirian Corsino, the designers behind the label, showcased a mix of lace (which will be a major trend!), chiffon, and plaid in a chic way. There was something for everyone. I am kind of in love with their nude and champagne pleated sleeve sheath dress.

Riza Manalo
Rebecca Tiago
Following them was Riza Manalo. She had me sold when the first dress was a black cut-out, tailored bell-bottom mini dress. Then the model walked past and I-Spy an exposed zipper. You all know how I am a sucker for an exposed zipper. Well two more dresses in that silhouette were to follow (just like this one pictured left). Those dresses were my highlight! Fashion snaps Riza.

Rebecca Tiago came next. Her collection gave me everything I adore: polka dots, lace, peplum, pops of red, and sophisticated silhouettes. Not to mention, I loved her red star Tiago necklaces on some of the models. I am now a fan of navy blue lace thanks to her. She gave really good dresses on the runway. There was a dress for all occasions and were tailored for the models.

Last, but not least, was designer Baruni. Fadwa Baruni closed out the group fashion session with an international bang. It was red, black, and white, with pops of teal that catwalked. I got a Russian/Middle Eastern vibe with the use of loosely wrapped turban-esque headwear and prints. Her collection definitely held my attention and it was a nice way to end my shows at NFW.

Kudos to the models in the high platform shoes! I can only imagine what they go through. Thanks to Nolcha Fashion Week for inviting me!! Looking forward to next season.
