Red Carpet: 84th Annual Academy Awards [Just Say No Edition]

Melissa McCarthy in Marina Rinaldi and
Brian Atwood shoes and clutch.
*Melissa and Brian have been friends since H.S.
Unfortunately, the Oscars brought out the not-so-best dressed stars of the night. I feel these celebs could've worn better, but it doesn't mean I don't love them for their talents! It just means they either need to fire their current stylist, or maybe hire one. They are not the absolute worse...I just know these ladies could've done better.

Here are picks for the Just Say No red carpet campaign...

Jane Seymour in Pamella Roland

Julia Ormond

Livia Firth in Valentino (eco-friendly)

Maya Rudolph in Johanna Johnson

Meryl Streep in Lanvin
I adore Meryl!!! Just not a fan of her look tonight.

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

Shailene Woodley in Valentino couture.
She's only 20 years old!!

Virginia Madsen

*Thanks to StyleBistro, StyleIt, and Huffington Post for all of the photos!*

Red Carpet: 84th Academy Awards [Make You go Hmmm Edition]

Anna Faris in DVF
The Oscars brings out the fashion you want to copycat, and then the fashion that you just want pieces of but not the whole enchilada. Only a few made my list of tilting my head and thinking they just missed the mark slightly, but they are definitely not a NO. My picks missed the mark either with hair, accessories, choice of dress, and/or cut of dress. Obviously they are not totally unfortunate.

Here are those that made my list of making me go "hmmm"...

Kelly Ripa in Carolina Herrera

Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel

Busy Philipps in Dolce & Gabbana

Judy Greer in Monique Lhuillier

Kate Mara in Elie Saab

Nancy O'Dell in Chagoury Couture

Natalie Portman in Christian Dior
Haute Couture

Penelope Cruz in Armani Prive

Rooney Mara in Givenchy
She picked this dress the morning of.

Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood
I do love her hair though!

Penelope Ann Miller in
custom Badgley Mischka.

Red Carpet: 84th Annual Academy Awards [YES Edition]

Stacy Keibler in Marchesa
Tonight is the 84th Annual Academy Awards. So I hope you are watching, or as you might be reading this, watched. I was flipping between TV Guide, E!, and ABC for my red carpet coverage. Although, I stuck mainly with E! until the last half hour or so when I switched to ABC. [Btw, did you catch when "The Dictator", Sacha Baron Cohen, spilled "ashes" (or possibly Bisquick) or Ryan Seacrest?? I almost died. My mouth dropped open and I felt bad for his Burberry tux that did nothing to warrant such a mess.] Like 99% of us who watch awards shows, well maybe 98%, we must talk red carpet fashion. I, however, am over Kelly O.'s hair color choice and gasped when she mentioned that she doesn't like red dresses on the red carpet, at which point I looked at her hair color and gave a side eye.

Ok, I digress. Let's talk the winners I chose of the night! Of course, these are my opinions solely...as I am not a licensed Fashion Cop or anything.

[My thoughts: Stacy Keibler looked like liquid gold and was the perfect trophy date for George Clooney. Octavia Spencer could do no wrong with Tadashi. Jennifer Lopez always looks gorge and seriously gives 20-something y/o's a run for their money! Glenn Close looks amazing in that Zac Posen! She looked classy and young (but good young, not trying to hold on young). Giuliana Rancic was perfection, although I would've changed the shade of red lipstick. I love peplum and Tina Fey and Michelle Williams gave me what I needed tonight! However, Tina could've used bold color earrings instead, maybe green? Viola Davis brought natural beauty back! She looked stunning. Gwyneth Paltrow picked a fab white Tom Ford gown with a cape that didn't disturb me at all. And yes, Angelina Jolie looked stellar in her gown...but I thought her hair should've been pulled back. *for the celebs I didn't specifically mention, they just looked gorge and didn't need extra thoughts. P.S. Loved Jessica Chastain bringing her "nana" on the red carpet, who looked lovely in Marina Rinaldi.]

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad and Lorraine Schwartz

Angelina Jolie in Versace Atelier

Cameron Diaz in Gucci

Ellie Kemper in Armani Prive

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli
and Louis Vuitton jewels

Giuliana Rancic in Tony Ward and
Palladium Jewelry

Glenn Close in Zac Posen

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

Jessica Chastain in McQueen

Leslie Mann in Roberto Cavalli.
'dress is so tight, I don't know
if I can use the restroom.'

Michelle Williams in coral Louis Vuitton

Missi Pyle in Valentina Delfino. Chopard and
Chanel accessories.
This is an eco-friendly gown made from "cruelty-
free silk worms."

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji and
Jimmy Choo shoes

Tina Fey in custom Carolina Herrera

Viola Davis in emerald Vera Wang

On My TV: 84th Annual Academy Awards

Ok guys and dolls. It's time for our superbowl, The 84th Academy Awards! It's Oscar Sunday. And while I am still discouraged by Kelly Osbourne's hair color (I just had to say it), I am excited for the red carpet fashions. I am tuned into E! for the red carpet coverage. For my live tweeting, you can follow me @NYFashionisette.

Fashion News: House of Dereon S/S 2012 Campaign

I thought it best to let the video do all of the speaking. But I will say this...based on this video, Solange should be rocking some HoD because this is right up her alley now. Maybe she was the inspiration?

News: Tyra Banks is a Harvard Graduate

Tyra Banks is officially a Harvard graduate. Seems she decided to get some "Higher Learning" (sorry, I couldn't resist) and received her diploma from Harvard University’s Executive Education Owner/President Manager Program on Feb. 17. Those enrolled attend one three-week session, which currently cost $33,000 a pop, per year for three years [according to Washington Post]. Congrats Tyra! Maybe for Season 18 of ANTM, the models will have a photo shoot at Harvard?

Smiling ear2ear on the Harvard Business School campus w/ my diploma! Tnx 2 my fab photographer mama 4 the pic!

Obsessed: Color-Blocking Heels

The Jessica Simpson "Bendie" Sandal on my foot.
I have been *fashion girl voice* obsessed with color blocked heels for a little while now. But my recent love increase for it had to be when I scored my Jessica Simpson "Bendie" Sandals at Marshalls for $49.99 a couple of weeks ago! If you can only imagine the smile on my face when I first walked in and those shoes hit me. They only had a minimal number in stock and I prayed to find a 7.5, and I did!! (It just so happened the nail polish on my toes, of which the salesgirl noticed too, matched). Now I am on the hunt for more color-blocking heels. Natch, I did a little sole-searching and found some great designs for you (and moi) to add to our shoe closets this Spring/Summer season.

Aldo "Tullus" Two-tone flat ballerinas.
ASOS. $98.48

Faux suede bow color-block retro platform.
Amiclubwear. $19.99

A personal fave! PEONY Patent Bow Platform Court.
ASOS. $93.11

Luichiny buckle up wedge. Heels.com.
$89.99

Luichiny "Luv Lee" in purple. Heels.com.
$94.99

Giuseppe Zanotti neon color block
platform sandal. Bergdorf Goodman.
$695.

Ok. Well my search just didn't stop there. Here are some more fierce color-blocked shoes you can add to your shoe-drobe... (thanks to ShopStyle for making it easier.)
