Baby News: Meet Maxwell Drew Johnson

Jessica Simpson took to the cover of People magazine to introduce us to her bundle of joy, Maxwell Drew Johnson. And yes, I am still in love with that name! The new issue featuring Jessica's baby girl hits newsstands this Friday. Inside, she talks about recovering from a c-section, how Maxwell has changed her life, and see exclusive photos. From what I can see, Maxwell is a cutie.

J'adore: Designboom Pixel Eye Mask

StudioBo pixel sleeping eye masks. $24. Designboom
You know me and my eye masks. They're great for everyday use or if you're like me, better for jetsetting. Something about being on those planes and sliding down an eye mask to get some shut eye. I feel so fancy with an eye mask, like an old Hollywood celebrity. Is it just me? Ok well, I don't know how I came about Designboom (you know me and my random online shopping excursions), but I loved these pixel sleeping eye masks by StudioBo. They're definitely a conversation starter and show off your funny and creative side, in case that side needs to be seen. They're really $14, but with S&H, the total price is $24, which is still no bank breaker (fyi, they're from Thailand, so now you can say your sleeping eye masks are from overseas). Plus, there are other color combos you can choose from...so you're colorblocking even in your sleep.

Style Snaps: Vivica Fox at MIB 3 Premiere

This past Wednesday, Vivica Fox debuted a new hair cut on the black carpet premiere of MIB3 (Will Smith's new movie). I loved her carpet look, and love the new hair cut. I think it makes her look younger. And can we talk about the white Louis Vuitton suit? It suits her perfectly. And it was such a nice touch to add metal cap-toe pumps with the look too. I am such a fan of tailored pantsuits. If you're going to wear a pantsuit, or any suit, please make sure they fit. If isn't doesn't, there's nothing a good tailor can't fix. Pantsuits, if done right, are classy, comfortable, and create a clean silhouette. A white pantsuit is all the bold you need, so be sure to pick shoes with just a touch of pop (like Vivica) and keep accessories to the bare minimum. I have been looking for a white pantsuit for myself (ever since one my aunt C sported one to my cousin's wedding in Florida a few years back). And now seeing it on Vivica, my search is really on. If I find one, I'll be sure to snap a pic in it.

In case you want to replicate Vivica's look (and for much less), here is an option I found (via Shopstyle):

On My Tele: Single Ladies - Season 2

When I heard that "Val", played by actress Stacey Dash wasn't going to be returning to the second season of Single Ladies on VH-1, I already knew I wasn't watching. They ended season 1 with such a cliffhanger, so I guess I will never know who she would've ended up with. And the show was really centered around Stacey's character, not to mention her store was the main backdrop. Then when I saw who would be the new single lady to round out the trio, I thought, a Stacey Dash look-a-like, now I am definitely not watching. Denise Vasi was chosen to play "Raquel"...and even though she gives off a Stacey look, she is playing a totally new character. Now all of my negativity will be turning into a positive, I promise. So when I saw the ladies, LisaRaye (Keisha), Charity Shea (April), and Denise Vasi (Raquel), on a recent episode of The Wendy Williams Show, I started to change my mind a little about the show. The sneak peek that aired had me intrigued. Well, now a super trailer dropped of the new season, and I will say that I will be watching the second season (with disappointment that I won't be seeing Val, who always brought it with the wardrobe!). It's chock full of celeb cameos. But...they still use Val's store as the backdrop. I am guessing Raquel runs it now or Keisha. And I didn't like how they introduced Val not being on the show anymore. They could've said which man she decided to be with. Needless to say, the second season of Single Ladies looks good.

What do you think? Will you be watching?

Fashion High for Less: Louboutin vs. Go Jane

Christian Louboutin. Clou Noeud 150 Studded.
$1,195. Net-a-porter. SOLD OUT.
You know I love sole searching and coming up with a good deal. So my wallet cannot speak Louboutin yet (although it does speak at the Loubie sample sale. I'll save that for another post), but I remember when these Clou Noeud 150 Studded Slingbacks came out. They instantly topped my shoe dream list...as I don't have any shoes that are edgy. Weird right? So I have to step my shoe-edge game up. Well, maybe I can now. I was checking out Go Jane (do you also shop there?) and came across these metallic studded bow platform slingbacks at a price that doesn't make me cringe. Plus, the Louboutin shoes are all sold out, so these will be the closest I can get to the original style (unless by some sort of shoe miracle this style makes its way to the sample sale). What do you think? Good match?

Breaking News: Bryanboy newest chosen for ANTM

Sometimes it pays to be a night owl because you get the scoops first. Well, Fashion Foie Gras (a site I also love) tweeted that uber-blogger Bryanboy will be a new castmate on the 19th season of America's Next Top Model. This news is also cemented by WWD (fashion's CNN), so it's definitely not a rumor. This is major!! So congrats to Bryan on scoring this new gig. I think this is the start of a trend for bloggers on TV. However, I am a little biased because I loved the show when Tyra had Andre Leon Talley, Nigel Barker, Mr. Jay, and Miss Jay on the show. With this new season of Kelly Cutrone and Kelly Osbourne, I just felt the show's new direction was leaving me behind. For the next season, Kelly Cutrone is confirmed as a judge for a second time, along with celeb stylist Johnny Wujek, and model Rob Evans, all who are joining ANTM on the judging panel. I felt as Wendy Williams did, that Tyra should bring back the supermodels. Make this show really about modeling and who better to judge models than supermodels? Wouldn't it be cool to see Cindy, Naomi (who is set to have her own show soon), and Linda? In any case, congratulations Bryanboy!!! Wanna be on top...

Wedding March: UGG Australia "I Do" Capsule Collection

As UGG Australia says, your wedding just got cozier. Who knew they had an "I Do" capsule collection? I didn't until now. I must say, pretty creative move. I can definitely see this collection working for winter wedding wonderlands everywhere. Although, I do see Uggs during the Spring/Summer seasons too...but that doesn't make it right. The capsule collection features cozy designs to say "I Do" to.

UGG Australia. "Bailey Bling". $225

The Bailey Bling boot features a Swarovski bejeweled button detail. Who can resist extra bling on their wedding day?

"Sparkles." $190

Bling not your thing? The Sparkles boot can light up your aisle. Covered in sparkly iridescent pink and white sequins on satin, it's the shiny bridal take on an Ugg classic.

"Fluff Flip Flop." $80

Don't want your feet to touch the ground...or the hotel room? Pack your Fluff Flip Flops, covered in all shearling topped with a white and baby something blue charm.

Do you say "I Do" to these Uggs?

Too Cool for School: Hair Bow bans little girl from Photo

I had to tell you all this story, in case you hadn't heard. This little girl is just too cute. So here's her story across the pond a la Daily Mail. The Daily Mail printed a story about 4 y/o Marcella Marino who wanted to look like a princess for her school pictures. Well it seems little Marcella (love that name) was too stylish for her school because she was banned from taking her photo. Now how could anyone ban a face, a hairstyle, and a look like that? She looks too cute!!! I wish I had that style when I was 4. These kids today I tell ya. Marcella's dad is a hairdresser and turned his daughter's tresses into a bow (very Lady Gaga). But when she gets to school, she wasn't allowed to take her photo. A spokesperson for the school confirmed that hair bands and ribbons must be ‘made of dark colours’ such as maroon, navy blue or black and that hair braids are ‘not allowed’. Seems like the school needs a hair lesson. A hair bow is not a braid. And the school told her parents that she is not allowed to have her hair in a bow for photos or for just class. Such a shame. Well, I hope her love for style is not permanently stifled. And don't worry Marcella, the school might not have let you take your photo, but your photo has gone international on the web...even better!

Read the whole story here (and see Marcella's dad and her little sister too): Marcella and her hair bow.

Fashion Fitness: ViewSPORT - Motivation Revealed

ViewSPORT. Women's "Unlimited Potential" tank.
$25. (front)
Recently, I attended Fitness Magazine's Blogger Tweet and Meet event that was held at the Met Pavilion in NYC. It was simply amazing! In the days that followed, I was tweeting about the event and @ViewSPORT reached out to me asking me if I liked mixing fashion and fitness. Well, what doll doesn't? I mean if we're going to work out we have to look good. It's top priority...besides exercising. [Although, I am so bad with not having real work out clothes, so I need to work on that.] Ok, back to ViewSPORT. Now when you learn about the company, you'll understand why I love their name. It totally makes sense. ViewSPORT is the brain child of Ben Wood. He developed sweat activated technology, meaning a design appears where you sweat. Pretty cool right? I mean it gives people something else to look at while you're sweatin' to the oldies (old reference I know). They have a collection for the guys, us dolls, and even kids. Each tank or tee has a catchy phrase on the front, and then on the back, when you start sweating, a complimentary phrase appears. Like the "Unlimited Potential" tank shown (above), it says that on the front, but when you sweat...
(back of Unlimited Potential tank)
it says "Chase Me" on the back. I mean who could resist that? And you don't have to spend a lot to look this creative. All of the tanks and tees (for men, women, and kids) are just $25. Not wallet-breaking at all.

Love it? Well shop ViewSPORT and grab a tank or tee that sweats to you!

Musical: Notorious B.I.G. "Ready 2 Die" Hip Hop Musical

I am not sure how I came across this, but I had no idea that there would be a musical for B.I.G. I don't have any other information on this musical, or who the cast will be, but I am definitely intrigued. Right now, I know it is written & directed by Al "Paper" Green. If I get the scoop on it, you know I will let you know. For now, you can check out the website and purchase your tix here: Ready 2 Die Hip Hop Musical.

Would you go to see it?

Getting Nailed: The Border Mani

Madeline Poole Nails
The border mani on me.
I don't know if you have also been seeing this nail art photo around. But a few weeks ago I spotted it and saved it because oddly I loved it. Then I started seeing other variations of this "border" style manicure and I wanted to try it (you can see other styles on Necole Bitchie and You Nailed it!). So earlier today, thankfully when the rain stopped, I went to get a pedi originally, but my manicurist was able to give me a mani too. I brought in the picture (shown above) and told her we were going to try something different. I chose a pale pink color (because I saw that look too) with a black outline. This was the first time she's ever done this style, and I think she did a good job for her first. She claimed it was hard, which I guess it is to keep a stable hand and outline your nail shape. Something I could never do on my own.

But here is the result. I love it. It's different, and I always like being different. At first, it takes a little getting used to, and I am sure it's one of those designs where you either love it or hate it. I do like the pale pink color...as I am not sure how white with black would look with my complexion. I am also thinking of some other color combos that could work.

So what do you think? Would you wear this border nail trend?

Thursday Love: Stay At Home Moms....Why So Few Left?

Earlier this week there was a discussion I was involved in on Twitter around the question to women..."If you had to choose between being a stay at home mom and having a career". The overwhelming response from most of the women involved in the conversation was that they "DIDN'T WANT TO be a stay at home mom...or that they ENJOYED THEIR CAREERS TOO MUCH to give it up to stay home with the kids."

Now..let's be clear...I have nothing against a woman wanting to maintain her career. Women work just as hard if not harder than men do to get to the positions they have. So wanting to hold onto said position....I completely understand. But the thing that got me the most was women so easily casting aside becoming mothers or staying home to care for their children personally who didn't really have a CAREER per se, but had a J.O.B. which stands for Just. Over. Broke.

One woman involved in the conversation said that in her opinion, stay at home moms were lazy who were just looking to have someone take care of them. It was obvious to me that this woman has no children, nieces, nephews...nothing...for her to say something like that. Having children is a full-time job! I have a 1 year old son and when my wife goes out with her girlfriends or I have to take care of him for the day....it's A LOT of work! I don't envy stay at home moms, that's a full time job in and of itself!!!

But the question I have is why is it that women who are very much into their careers look down on women who choose to care for their children and home as if working for a Fortune 500 company is more rewarding than caring for their children.

What's the problem with a woman choosing to stay home and care for her family?

Why does she automatically get labeled as lazy because her aspirations were to raise and care for a family?

Maybe she decided to stay at home with the children because she doesn't really NEED to work. Maybe her husband/man does well enough that the family's needs are cared for with just his income. I believe a lot of this tension stems from women's desire to rewrite the wrongly adhered to gender rules that were the norm from so long ago.

PSA ladies...we know that we're not in the 1960's anymore and we know that women have the ability to run global corporations....just don't belittle another woman for pursuing what she desired, that of being a stay at home mom.

I believe that still to be the noblest, most rewarding, yet under appreciated of professions. Because NO ONE can care for or raise your children better than you can, but everyone thinks they can.

Again I reiterate that I'm not against women working....I'm just against those that choose to work...looking down on those who choose to raise a family. Besides...both can be done. I know she was a fictional character but look at Claire Huxtable from the Cosby Show. Initially she was a stay at home mom but then decided to go back to work when her children got older. That's a reality that many women are realizing today. They're staying home for the first few years of their children's lives and then once they're ready to go into school. They re-enter the workforce.

Is it so wrong to want both?

J'adore: Wildflower iPhone Cases

Blue Floral Gold Pyramid iPhone 4 case
I came across Wildflower iPhone 4 cases on Twitter. Social media is just so effective with increasing brand awareness. I'm sure I would've never came across their cases had it not been for Twitter. Unfortch, I can't sport the cases since iBlackberry. I know, I know, it's time for me to switch teams, but I am such a die hard bberry fan. You know how Carrie Bradshaw in SATC didn't want to change from her flip, well just apply that to me. Ok, so I took a detour. Back to Wildflower. The company is LA based and was founded (and created) by Michelle Carlson. Wildflower just launched this April '12, so they are a fresh new take on iPhone cases (P.S. Miley Cyrus is a personal fan too). Here's a fun fact: they offer 4 limited edition designs every month. So you have to keep up with them so you don't miss out on a design. My fave? The blue floral gold pyramid case. It's perfect for the season and the pyramid accent gives it the right amount of edge. If you're team iPhone 4, then check out Wildflower and pick a case that iSpeaks to you.

Shoe Love Quickie: Max Kibardin

Max Kibardin. Satin and mesh platform pump. $645
Saks.
Max Kibardin is now on my shoe-dar. If he isn't on yours yet, then maybe after this post he will be. I wasn't familiar with him until I saw these satin and mesh platform pumps (that are brilliant for evening wear) on the Saks website. Like seriously, I have visions of all the galas I want to wear these to (and maybe galas is an overstatement, but I just like the way it sounds). And I just couldn't choose one Kibardin, I had to pick another design from his evening collection. The bejeweled embellishment spoke to my sole.

Max Kibardin. Bejeweled suede and mesh
d'orsay pumps. $995. Saks

On My Tele: Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall are not in The Game

I was really sad to hear a couple of days ago that Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall won't be returning to The Game on BET. After all, the show was based around Melanie and Derwin. And if you were a Girlfriends fan like moi, then you remember that Melanie was Joan's cousin...hence the spinoff into The Game. I know the show wasn't the same after that long hiatus, but I was really getting back into it this season. Now to know that Tia and Pooch won't be back for season 6 does not inspire confidence that this show will last. I mean I do love me some Malik and Tasha, but I could do without Jason and Chardonnay, and would love for them to bring back Kelly (I miss her). And Tee Tee is hilarious. It seems Pooch wasn't returning due to scheduling conflicts with other projects he has, and Tia it seems was let go. Either way, The Game will just NOT be the same without those two. I will watch season 6 just to see how it plays out, since I'm curious to see if it will still be good.

Thursday Love: [Friday Edition] Financial Struggle - Does it Impact Relationships?

Financial stress is the leading cause of divorce in the United States.

Ongoing financial stress can lead to diminished sexual desires in a relationship and decreased intimacy. The stress caused from ongoing financial problems can not only decrease desire for sexual activity, but can actually cause real biological issues such as temporary impotence in men, it can prevent women from achieving orgasm during sex and can cause infertility because of the the hormones levels that raise when stressed out can affect the hypothalamus which is responsible for reproductive hormones.

Once these other problems begin happening as a result of the financial stress, it creates stress in other areas of life...perpetuating a vicious cycle of stress.

This in turn leads to increased arguments in the home which go from a small disagreement to full-blown verbal warfare with hurtful insults being flung around like they're daily pleasantries. The decrease in happiness in the home can lead to increased alcohol use, drug use, or even gambling. These various coping mechanisms aren't effective and lead to more arguments and fights between the couple...with each person blaming the other for their financial woes. Which leads to a decrease in desire to even socialize together and eventually splits the family and their mutual friends in two groups each being pulled to take either person's side.

So how do we combat financial stress?

First and foremost we have to keep in mind that we can only take care of the things that our income allows us to care for. Is there really a reason in getting all worked up over things that are out of our control? Not in my opinion! Also, we all need to keep in mind that only the TOP 3% of the United States households make over $200,00 per year and only the TOP 0.1% of households in the United States make over $1.6M annually. While the average household income is $46,326 yet the cost of living continues to rise as if the average annual household income were actually $60,000+ and rising. If all that can be taken care of are you and your families necessities, then budget accordingly! Cut out the extras! I'm speaking from experience! I know it's easier said than done....but self denial is absolutely necessary when facing tough economic times.

In these troubled economic times when no one is TRULY financially secure....having and leaning on family and the relationships we've built is continuing to grow in importance every second of every day.

Words I try to live by: "Control the things you can control. Let everything else come at you, and if you must go down....GO DOWN WITH YOUR GUNS BLAZING!"

The Glambergirl Alert: COLOR is a Girl's BFF

Hello Glamberous Ones,

On any given Thursday in New York City you could stumble across a fashion treasure and today I was able to attend a very colorful celebration of fashion, technology and hors d'oeuvres.

Rachel Shectman is the genius behind Thisisstory.com. The 2000 square foot store STORY located at 144 Tenth Avenue (at 19th Street) in NYC is a store much like a fashion magazine that you can shop in with the theme changing every so often.

I spoke with Jason Cadbau, retail worker with Thisisstory.com, and he gave me all the details about how each story unfolds. "Well we change our store every four to eight weeks and after that process we redesign the entire layout and we change all the products for your viewing, so each four to eight weeks you get a brand new experience."

And an experience I got! I was IN love with all the colors in the store. Being that red is my favorite color naturally I flocked to that area of the store first. STORY is a one stop shop for almost everything! You can find super chic colored shoes, fancy iPad and iPhone covers, jewelery, clothing, books and so much more but since the 'color story' is nearing the end you may want to head over to STORY soon. To celebrate its last days in the 'color story' the store was filled with helpful experts to answer any questions about how STORY is ran with complimentary wine, soda, and Baked by Melissa cupcakes. I felt like I've died and went to glamberous heaven!

I tried to get Jason to spill on the upcoming 'story' but he was sworn to secrecy. "No that's under wraps right now but we keep our followers in the mix by having them join our mailing list." Well you heard the man! If you want to be in the loop about what happens next at the store be sure to head over to Thisisstory.com and join.

The Glambergirl Alert: Disco Legend Donna Summer Dies

Sad news Glamberous ones.

On Thursday morning, May 17, it was announced that disco legend Donna Summer lost her battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 63. Summer was suffering with Lung Cancer, which she believes came from inhaling particles from the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City.

Summer's family released a statement addressing that they were at peace and celebrating the life of their loved one and her continued legacy. They added, "Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."

The 5-time Grammy winner and beautiful woman with the powerful voice behind such great disco classics like "Love to Love You Baby", "Hot Stuff" and Last Dance" will be deeply missed. RIP Donna Summer. Save one 'Last Dance' for us in Heaven.

Style Challenge: 5 Bloggers, 5 Looks, 1 Dressbarn Dress

I was approached a little while ago with a style challenge. How would 5 bloggers, with 5 different shapes, and 5 different styles, wear 1 dress? That's a lot of pressure for 1 dress right? But it turns out, it can be done and make you look good doing it. Let's do the Dressbarn break down, shall we.

1 Dress: a cobalt blue flutter sleeve ruffle wrap dress from Dressbarn for $39.99. [Update: this color is sold out. However, it is available in black!]

5 Bloggers: Lorna of The Fabulous ReportLara of Pretty Connected, Melissa of The Fat AppleMakeda of Glamazon Diaries, and moi.

I wear a size 14, but was sent a size 12 (bc my PR friend Nadia, bless her heart, thought I was smaller than I looked), and I was worried it wouldn't fit. But she told me that it would fit, and she was so right! The dress fit perfectly...with the exception of "the girls" popping out a little (but nothing a little safety pin couldn't fix). I love wrap dresses because they are easy breezy and you look put together everytime. Now I am a fan of Dressbarn, but haven't really shopped there in a very long time, mainly because I wasn't finding anything that fit my style. But, it seems Dressbarn does have dresses that fit my style, and you can't always go by how it looks on the hanger (or on the online mannequin). Can I also say that I love this color too!! It really pops.

How did I style the dress?
I wanted to go a little edgy...but not too much. I threw on my cropped sleeve faux-leather jacket that I got a few years ago from Forever 21, my beat-up but fave watch from Loehmann's (that was only $10), and my Balenciaga-esque caged front sandals (remember them from like 2007? I can't remember where I got the sandals from, but I think I paid like $30 or something).

What do you think? How did I do? Once I put the dress on, I was instantly in love. This is going to be my go-to dress for everything, even traveling because the fabric is suitcase friendly. Want to find some Dressbarn dresses of your own? Well, here's a 20% off coupon to help!

*Fashion Disclaimer: Dressbarn gifted me this dress to participate in the challenge. I was not under obligation to participate and did not receive any monetary compensation.*
