Fashion High for Less: Versace vs Go Jane

Nicki at 2012 Grammy
nominations in LA
Nicki Minaj "Superbass" video.
It feels like forever since I have been able to write. Work has me so swamped. But a fabulous pair of shoes will always bring me out of hiatus. So I have been obsessed with a pair of Versace triple platform pumps (since my post on the platform boots I spied back in 2010 - "Died and went to Versace") and especially when I saw Nicki Minaj don a pair in her video Superbass. Did you catch them? Well, you know I did. She sported the pair at the 2012 Grammy Nominations in LA too. And just so you know, she is not the only celeb who was rocked them, although this post is seeming very Barbz. So let me get back to the shoes. I found a pair that are very similar, and now I need to add them to my shoedrobe stat for the summer! The Versace pair (from the S/S 12 collection) cost around $1,295. The ones I found, a whopping $35.20. I know right??!

Versace peep toe. $966. Farfetch.com
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a photo of the shoe or find it sold anywhere online. But I did find the peep toe version of it on Farfetch.com.

The shoe high for less option, that's less wallet-breaking...

Color block platforms. $32.50. GoJane.com
GoJane offers them in 3 color blocking combos (white, orange, black).

So what do you think? Would you wear them?

You're Invited: Brooklyn Summer Nights 2012

Usually, I don't post concerts or music events. But this one I wanted to post. Well, I will also be there too. I also thought my readers like music and entertainment, so I should probably keep you in the loop too. And since I am a brooklynite, I couldn't resist telling you about the Summer Nights 2012 concert featuring Ryan Leslie, Juelz Santana, and hosted by DJ Pro Style. It should be a nice start to summer. Tickets start around $35, so it's not wallet breaking. Maybe I'll see you there.

Fallen Star: Yvette Wilson March 6, 1964 — June 15, 2012

I just received the sad news that actress Yvette Wilson passed away early this Friday morning. The former Moesha actress (she played 'Andell') lost her battle with stage 4 cervical cancer. She was just 48 years young. I am sure you saw the reports where she needed financial help to pay her medical bills, and it is reported that with the help of friends she had raised $13,599 of the $25,000 needed. In addition to battling with cervical cancer, she also needed a kidney transplant due to kidney problems. I remember when she on Thea, playing 'Lynette', kind of the Ethel to Thea's Lucy. In that show she also co-starred with Brandy too. After that, her other big role was playing 'Andell' in Moesha, which she played for 4 years before going to the spinoff The Parkers. I always loved her effervescence, not to mention she could rock a mean short hair cut (or twists). She will be missed from tv.

ADmiring: Louis Vuitton Fall 2012

I know it has been way too long since I've posted dolls and kens. Work had me so swamped! You know how it is. Finally I can catch up on all the news that's good to dish. First up, let's talk about the Louis Vuitton Fall 2012 ad campaign. Can I just say I love it! It takes me back to an era (I wasn't born in), that I appreciate. I just had this conversation the other day with a friend where I said I wished that we would get dressed up to travel again. The ad campaign which made a locomotive its backdrop was shot by Steven Meisel, and features 10 models and 4 porters in a reconstructed interior of the LV Express in a NYC studio. Let's rewind back. Yes, there is a Louis Vuitton express train. It will dispatch from Paris to Shanghai on July 19th, where the models, wearing the Fall collection, will step off the train and circle it. There's a website where we can stay on 'track' with the locomotive: louisvuittonexpress.com. Catch the new ads in magazines this August.

The Glambergirl Alert: Happy Father's Day!

Hello Glamberous Ones,

It's that time of year again! The time where we celebrate all the wonderful men in our lives that have been there for us through the ups and downs. The ones that gave us guidance and maybe scolded us a time or two. I'm talking about our dads! Fathers Day is Sunday, June 17 and if you haven't thought of a thing to get your dad as a gift I thought of a few things while celebrating some of our favorite fictional dads.

The 'Tool Man' Dad: If your dad is anything like Tim Allen's character on "Home Improvement" then he'll love a fresh set of tools. Sears is having a huge sale on tools for dad, everything from drills, wrenches and screws. Dad can rack up here and get all the things he needs for the house.

The 'Sports Man' Dad: If your dad is eyeing the ninth hole this Father's Day like Michael Kyle from "My Wide and Kids" then some golf gear would be right up his alley as a gift! Kohl's has great offers on authentic putting systems from $27 to polo t-shirts starting at $19.99.

The "Fashion Forward' Dad: We all have those dads that are just as into fashion as we are like Scott Disick and for that we have a great sale going on at Men's Wearhouse! Everything from ties to suits, slacks to collar shirts are majorly marked down at the store. Ties are going for $19.99, Calvin Klein suits for $239.99 and Rockport shoes for $89.99.

Whatever you get your father this year mark sure it's wrapped in love! Happy Father's Day from The Fashionisette and Glambergirl!

The Glambergirl Alert: MTV Movie Awards Recap

On Sunday June 3, Hollywood's brightest and most beautiful stars gathered to celebrate everything movies at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Host Russell Brand was expected to be his normal random self and the show promised many surprises.

The show opened with a performance of "We Are Young" from Fun with Janelle Monae followed by a mediocre monologue from Brand. The most talked about performance was The Black Keys with the "2012 Generation Award" winner Johnny Depp.

The award show continued smoothly with awards being handed out left and right with no major upsets or outlandish antics during the show. The most tear jerking moment of the night was an emotional Christian Bale during a sneak peek for “The Dark Knight Rises” with a glimpse of Heath Ledger as he presented the clip along with other co-stars. The movie looks great and I’m sure it will be a box office hit! The show ended with the most coveted award of the night "Movie of the Year that went to my beloved "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1."

Some of the lovely ladies of Hollywood looked especially spectacular that night! In my very bias opinion my girl Kristen Stewart was dressed best and looked amazing! There really wasn't a trend on the carpet in regards to dresses but if hot and sexy is a trend then all the ladies on the carpet definitely scored big on my list.

Naturally I was beyond elated to see "The Twilight Saga" rack up at the awards. Well, I shouldn't say rack up, they were only up for two awards but us Twihards generated our energy and enough votes for our favorite saga to sweep "Best Kiss" and "Movie of the Year" FOUR years in a row! Talk about dedication. I'm so sure we can do it again next year for the final installment. *silently weeping to self*
Congrats to all the winners of the night!

Happy National Doughnut Day!

It's #NationalDoughnutDay in case you hadn't heard. Plus, it's also June 1st...the halfway mark of 2012. So get out there and grab a free donut at participating Krispy Kreme stores, or stop by Dunkin Donuts and get a free donut with purchase (which doesn't technically make it free...but if you wanted a donut to go with your iced coffee anyway, then it's a perk).
